EXE GNU/LINUX (Devuan with Trinity Desktop) Exe GNU/Linux is a "live image" based on Devuan Gnu/Linux and preconfigured for general desktop use. Numerous system rescue tools are included. Trinity Desktop Environment (TDE) is preinstalled. Exe GNU/Linux includes a small number of additional (non-essential) custom software packages, e.g. the installer. Use and administration of Exe GNU/Linux is generally the same as official Devuan. Most Debian documentation and wiki articles also apply but note that Debian's "systemd" is not used. Please see "References" further down this page. Non-free software is not included. Please refer to https://wiki.debian.org/ for help with non-free requirements. This image, written to CD or USB, may be booted from almost any computer as a complete "live" Linux system. It may then be (optionally) installed to fixed disk. It can replace Microsoft Windows (or other OS) or install as a dual-boot configuration. To write the image to CD, please use "DAO" (disk-at-once) mode in your CD writing application. Performance will be much faster fom USB. You may write the image to a removable drive using "dd" from another operating system (this method will completely overwrite your removable drive). The live image includes two "non-destructive" usb installers, available from the "System" menu: exegnu2usb and (newer and with more advanced options) refracta2usb, which may be used from a live-cd session or subsequent installation. NETWORKING "Wicd" and "Ceni" are available from the "Internet" menu to assist network configuration. Wired ethernet connections should mostly be configured automatically. Wireless devices may require non-free firmware. Wireless device info: http://wiki.debian.org/WiFi LOCAL DISK PARTITIONS Partitions may be mounted in a live cd session from a (user) terminal: pmount sda1 (substitute "sda1" with the partition you need to access) It should then be mounted at /media/sda1 For permanent or automatic configuration in an installation, "Disk Manager" ia available in the "system" menu. HARD DISK INSTALLATION Preferably, prepare in advance the install partition (format to ext3 or ext4) and a swap partition (format linux-swap) using the gparted partition editor. A swap file in the root file system may be used instead of a separate partition, the installer will configure it if required. Usable minimum 4GB, 20+ is better. Swap 1GB Windows partitions needing to be shrunk to make room should first be defragmented from a Windows system. Start "ExeGNU Installer" from the "System" menu (or desktop icon) Alternative installer "Refractainstaller" is also available from the "system" menu. This has more advanced options including encryption and UEFI support. Installation time can be as little as 5 minutes on a fast machine. ############################################################################# References: http://exegnulinux.net/ https://devuan.org/ https://wiki.debian.org/ https://www.trinitydesktop.org/ Special thanks to Devuan and to TDE.
