Tour of Uyuni

Salar de Uyuni
Salar de Uyuni
With an expansion of 12,106 km² the Salar de Uyuni is the largest salt lagoon of Bolivia. Excepting the winter period (southern hemisphere), you'll find here a salt swamp which makes it undriveable for automobiles. It's the actual most important center for salt extraction.

Isla de Pescadores
Isla de Pescadores
Between Colchani and Isla de Pescadores (island of fishermen) you will find the unusual Hotel Playa Blanca. It's a full construction of the salt lying everywhere around. In other words; walls, tables and chairs aren't water-resistant. The island itself is very pretty but the cactus wood doesn't spend much shadow.

Panorama at San Juan
San Juan
Our first night we stayed in San Juan. The quiet and wide countryside gives you a western like feeling. Nevertheless they don't have a McDonald's!

Laguna Cañapa
Laguna Cañapa
Three species of flamingo live in south-western Bolivia. Their presence migth surprise in consideration to the infertil environment. While you are watching these stupid colorful birds, you won't believe that here is only 3/5 of the normal airpressure.

Stoneformation
Piedras (I)
Sometimes, but shurely unexpected, you cross strange rock-formations. Like japanese stonegardens they invite their visitors for a little walk. Several pieces apply with curious shapes for attention.

Stonesculpture
Piedras (II)
This curious shape is originated by steady bounceing sand which is dragged by the wind. The height dependent sand density, airspeed and therefore resulting cinematic grind off energy, formed this figure after millions of years.

Anywhere
Recorrido
The route leads through lonely regions with an inexorable climate, where you don't find any sign of live. It seems like a farce since some areas of the bleak landscape are totally covered by car tracks - in a width of hundreds of meters.

Laguna Colorada
Laguna Colorada
Next to Laguna Colorada, in Campamento ENDE, we spent our second night. The red coloration is a product of algea and plankton which thrive in the mineral-rich water. The white benches are deposits of sodium, magnesium, borax an gypsum.

Geysers
Sol de Mañana
The geysers of Sol de Mañana (morning sun) offers a good opportuniy to get an oracle. I didn't really like these stinkin' sulfur gases, so I cut this part out.

Rocas de Dalí
Rocas de Dalí
One of my favors is the Rocas de Dalí. With an extraordinary bizarre beauty, huge stonemonoliths arises like from nowhere. During the shadow play of clouds and a with seeming lightanomalies to life awoken solitude of sanddunes, mountain ranges and rocktowers, the scenery merges to an harmonious unity. Without your close memory, you won't see more than a weak glimmer.

Laguna Verde
Laguna Verde
Unfortunately the original coloring lost during the digitizing process. At an altitude of 5,000 m, due to the caribbean green lagoon and the hearty fresh air, you feel like in a magic world. Behind the lake the Volcano Lincancábur rises up. It's said to be a former place to sacrifice young inca men. Today it serves as a border point between Bolivia and Chile.

Panorama at Alota
Alota
After three days, stucked into a little asiatic jeep, we arrived Alota. Exhausted by the high temperatures, a lack of water and a total body dislocation, we praised our  Lord  third lodging. But pictures like this one let forget every pain.

Train cemetery at Uyuni
Cementerio de Trenes
The fourth and last day left during our hometrip to Uyuni. Although we got into an unexpected time paradox (inexplicable time expansion), we had a lot of fun. I'll thank to all my friends I met on this tour, for this absolutely terrific adventure.
